2. Add tax and tip
Tax and tip are optional. You can also choose whether the tip is calculated before or after tax.
3. Choose your group size
Split the total equally between 1 and 100 people and see the exact payment breakdown.
How the restaurant bill split is calculated
The basic calculation is simple:
Final Bill = Bill Amount + Tax + Tip
Amount Per Person = Final Bill ÷ Number of People
For example, an 18% tip on a $120 bill is $21.60. The final total is $141.60. Split between four people, each person pays $35.40.
What happens when a bill does not split evenly?
Quick Dine Split distributes the smallest currency units correctly instead of creating a rounding mismatch. If $100 is split between three people, two people pay $33.33 and one person pays $33.34. Together, the payments still equal exactly $100.
Should you calculate tip before or after tax?
Both approaches are used. Tipping customs vary by location and personal preference, so the calculator lets you choose either method. Read our tip before or after tax guide for examples.
